Disc Injury

Disc Injury Relief
in Lutz, FL

Disc injuries range from minor bulges to full herniations and degenerative disc disease. What they have in common is that they all respond to the right kind of care.

Types of Disc Injuries

Not All Disc Problems Are the Same

A disc bulge means the outer disc wall has weakened and is pushing outward in one direction, but the inner material has not broken through. A herniation means it has. Degenerative disc disease means the disc has lost height and hydration over time and the vertebrae above and below it are loading unevenly. Each of these presents differently and requires a somewhat different treatment approach.

What they all share is that they are driven by abnormal mechanical loading of the spine. When a vertebra is misaligned, it puts uneven stress on the disc. Over time, that stress causes the disc to break down, just the way a car tire wears unevenly when the wheel alignment is off.

As a chiropractor in Lutz, FL, I look at disc injuries through that mechanical lens. The disc is not the problem in isolation. The misalignment causing the abnormal load on the disc is the problem.

Disc Conditions We Treat

  • Disc bulge (lumbar and cervical)
  • Disc herniation with nerve compression
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Annular tear
  • Internal disc disruption
  • Disc-related radiculopathy
  • Post-surgical disc complications

Treatment

Mechanical Problems Need Mechanical Solutions

Correcting the spinal alignment that is causing abnormal disc loading is the foundation of our approach. From there, we often add spinal decompression for more significant disc injuries, and Class IV laser therapy to reduce inflammation and promote disc tissue repair.

Most of our disc injury patients from Lutz, Wesley Chapel, and Pasco County see meaningful improvement within 4 to 8 weeks. The timeline depends on how long the disc has been under abnormal stress and how much structural damage has accumulated.

FAQs

Disc Injury: Common Questions

A disc bulge means the outer wall of the disc has weakened and is pressing outward but remains intact. A herniation means the outer wall has torn and inner disc material has escaped. A herniation typically causes more severe nerve symptoms because the escaped material can directly contact and irritate a nerve root.
